CJ Stern (Oils) Limited
Fuel and oil retailer Chris Stern has been through a few changes of accountant over the 30 years he has been in business – without ever having moved firm.
Chris drew on his experience in the oil industry, which included working for Burma Oil, to launch his business in 1976, incorporating as CJ Stern (Oils) Limited a year later. Now the Huddersfield-based company has grown to three petrol stations and a heating oil supply arm, with a workforce of almost 20.
Chris has been a satisfied client of Watson Buckle since 2000, after what he describes as “following the changes” with accountancy firms. When he first started his business, he became a client of a practice named Hellewell Mallinson, then stayed with Ronald Hellewell when he set up his own firm.
Chris describes his business relationship with Watson Buckle as “excellent” and appreciates the breadth and depth of the firm’s services. He says: “As they have become a larger organisation, the firm has a lot more services to offer, and a lot more specialists, which is reassuring. “
During his contact with accountancy firms over the years, Chris says a key factor has been the people he has worked with, which continues to contribute to what he calls the “comfortable feel” of his relationship with Watson Buckle.
