Surprise U-turn on probate fee hikes

Controversial proposals to hike probate fees from the beginning of this month will no longer go ahead, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has confirmed.

The latest annual report of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) suggests that the costs incurred by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) associated with prosecuting lawyers on account of rule breaches has risen significantly in the past year.

A new Parliamentary report entitled Human Rights and Business 2017 is calling on the Government to reduce Tribunal fees.
