A significant development is on the horizon for the UK’s charitable sector with the slated 2024 launch of UK Grantmaking, a comprehensive platform dedicated to aggregating and analysing grantmaking data across the UK.

This collaborative initiative, led by 360Giving alongside the Association of Charitable Foundations, Association of Charitable Organisations, UK Community Foundations, London Funders, and other sector supporters, aims to enhance understanding and practice in grantmaking.

The platform’s inception is a direct response to 360Giving’s June 2023 research, “UK Grantmaking 2021-22: Snapshot”, which delved into grantmaking across various sectors to gain a broader understanding beyond just 360Giving data.

This research underscored the need for a more consolidated and comprehensive approach to grant data analysis.

UKGrantmaking.org, the new platform, is designed to be an interactive hub showcasing data, trends, and insights into UK grantmaking.

It will feature detailed data analyses, visual representations for better engagement, and contextual commentary from partnering organisations.

This annual platform aims to debut with the 2022-23 grantmaking data, subject to the availability of data from the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

This purpose-built platform will be a game-changer for funders, policymakers, researchers, and fundraisers.

It will provide an accessible space to explore, access, and download valuable data and insights on UK grantmaking.

360Giving envisions this platform as a catalyst for dialogues, engagement, and enhancement in the quality of grantmaking data.

This initiative is expected to grow and evolve, offering even more robust analyses in the coming years.

360Giving is also seeking input on how to expand and refine its analysis. The organisation invites suggestions and ideas for the kind of analysis that would be most beneficial in 2024 and beyond.

This feedback will be instrumental in shaping the future direction of this initiative, ensuring it remains relevant and valuable to the sector.

As accountants advising charities, we see this as a pivotal development. A centralised grantmaking data hub like UKGrantmaking.org will empower charities with crucial insights, helping them navigate the complexities of fundraising and grant application processes more effectively.

This tool will not only streamline the search for suitable grants but also provide valuable insights into trends and patterns in grantmaking, enabling charities to adapt and strategise accordingly.

The benefits of grant funding for charities are substantial, offering a critical source of income to support various causes.

With this new initiative, charities can look forward to enhanced transparency, better-informed strategies, and potentially more successful grant applications.
