Members of staff at Bradford-based accountancy firm Watson Buckle are celebrating this week, after the practice was named Independent Firm of the Year at the 2018 Yorkshire Accountancy Awards.

This year’s glamorous ceremony took place at New Dock Hall in Leeds on Thursday 10 May 2018, and was attended by some of the best and brightest accountancy practices from all across the Yorkshire region.

Nominees and their guests were treated to a champagne reception and a three-course meal, which was followed by an evening of entertainment hosted by prominent British comedian, Ellie Taylor.

Staff from Watson Buckle attended, including Joint Managing Directors Susan Sedgwick and Mark Wilcock, Directors Christopher Padgett and Ian Gill, Associate Director Andrew Padgett, Corporate Services Manager Selina Armitage, Business Services Managers Sandra Robinson and Danielle Vollentine and Corporate Tax Manager Rebecca Hurford.

Despite fierce competition and an intimidating judging panel comprising of representatives from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) and more, Watson Buckle proudly took home one of the most prestigious awards of the night.

Susan Sedgwick, Joint Managing Director at the firm, said: “At Watson Buckle, we have always taken great pride in being an independent firm, therefore it is a true honour to be recognised as Independent Firm of the Year at this prestigious awards ceremony.”

“To us, the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards is by far one of the most important awards ceremonies in Yorkshire, as it pays homage to the region’s best businesses operating in our sector. In light of this, I am delighted that Watson Buckle has been recognised as one of the best practices in the region and I am immensely proud of our team.”

Mark Wilcock, Joint Managing Director at the firm, added: “To be named as Independent Firm of the Year not only in our specialised sector, but across the entire Yorkshire region as a whole, is a fantastic achievement and I would like to thank everyone at Watson Buckle for their hard work and dedication over the years.”
