You may have recently seen some reports of an IT breach at Companies House.

Although the issue has now been identified and fixed, we understand that some of you may still have questions or concerns about how it might affect your company information.

The technical issue allegedly allowed users to access information about other companies registered with Companies House due to a system glitch.

This meant that unauthorised filings, such as accounts or changes of director, could be made to another company’s records at will.

The good news is Companies House has confirmed that passwords were not compromised, identity verification data remained secure and there was no ability to alter filed documents.

There is also no indication that this issue enabled large-scale data extraction, which will be reassuring for anyone concerned about wider data exposure.

What we recommend you do

Just for precaution, we suggest all company directors take a moment to:

  • Log in to your Companies House account
  • Review your company details and filing history
  • Check that both current and historic records are accurate and consistent

Most businesses will find nothing unusual, but if anything doesn’t look right or you’d like support reviewing your records, our team is ready to help.
