One of the UK’s leading tax advisers John Kinsella has been shortlisted as Tax Mentor at the prestigious Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2025.
A highlight of the profession’s calendar, the award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to developing the next generation of tax professionals, something John has long been passionate about.
A director at Bradford-based Watson Buckle, John has enjoyed a career that has seen him advise some of the region’s leading organisations, businesses and entrepreneurs, bringing a wealth of insight to the firm and to the clients he supports.
His expertise covers all areas of taxation, with a particular focus on corporate tax, HM Revenue & Customs investigations, and high-level planning for corporate clients and high net worth individuals.
As Watson Buckle’s Corporate Finance Director, John also advises on mergers, acquisitions, management buy-outs and buy-ins, due diligence, and complex tax planning for both Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax.
His background as a former Inland Revenue officer provides him with a unique understanding of how HMRC operates, helping clients to navigate their obligations with confidence.
However, it is John’s commitment to mentoring that has earned him national recognition from the Tolley’s judges.
Whether supporting clients through complex restructures or helping colleagues understand the intricacies of tax legislation, John is known for his ability to explain the complex in a clear, actionable way.
Speaking about his nomination, John said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be recognised in this way. I’ve always believed that part of our role as professionals is to share our knowledge and support the growth of others in the field. To be nominated for doing something I genuinely enjoy is a real privilege.”
The Tolley’s Taxation Awards shine a spotlight on the very best in the profession, with nominees judged by a panel of respected peers and industry leaders.
Winners will be announced at the official ceremony on 8 May 2025 at the Hilton Park Lane in London.
“We are thrilled to see John’s hard work and dedication acknowledged on a national stage and wish him every success at the final,” added Mark Wilcock, Managing Director at Watson Buckle.
