Watson Buckle has been declared on of the UK’s Best Small Companies to Work For, for its exceptional support of staff and its development of future talent.
The firm has been ranked 68th nationally in the list, which is compiled by workplace engagement specialist Best Companies.
The Directors and team at the independent West Yorkshire firm are celebrating their accreditation as an Outstanding Company to Work For, particularly as the recognition is based on anonymous feedback from employees.
Established in 1902, Watson Buckle is a long-standing, independent and well-respected provider of audit and accountancy services in the region, but it is also well known for its training of some of the region’s best accountants and tax advisers.
Mark Wilcock, Managing Director at Watson Buckle, said: “We realise that our power is in our people, those who have the dedication and drive to move us forward.
“To enable our long-term future success, we want to ensure our people are part of a happy and engaged workforce where their contributions are truly valued, where they can learn and grow and forge a long, rewarding career.”
“Our Best Companies achievement is something we’re really proud of. It demonstrates that we are living our values and taking feedback on board.”
Collaboration and integrity sit at the heart of the firm’s culture. Watson Buckle believes the best ideas come from diverse perspectives and encourages its team to approach problems creatively and explore new ideas.
The firm invests heavily in the professional development of its people and supports everyone to work flexibly, so they can balance their careers with their responsibilities outside work.
Watson Buckle sees this balance as key to creating a fulfilling and inspiring place to work and this approach is part of the reason that the firm has been recognised with this prestigious national honour.
Beyond the day job, staff are encouraged to take part in volunteering and community projects, and the firm sponsors a number of charitable events and initiatives in its local area. Regular team-building activities and social events help to keep the team connected.
“We are incredibly proud of the work culture that we have nurtured at Watson Buckle and it is reflected in our high rates of staff retention,” Mark added. “We are bucking in the trend in our industry in many ways, not least in the fact that 58 per cent of our team are female.”
